LED Pool Light Retrofit Savings
LED pool lighting uses a fraction of the electricity of older incandescent fixtures and lasts dramatically longer, which is why it is one of the lowest-effort upgrades on an existing pool. A higher water table near the coast affects how excavation and dewatering are handled during a gunite pour, which is accounted for in the construction plan rather than treated as a surprise once digging starts.

The Efficiency and Lifespan Difference
A traditional incandescent pool light often draws 300-500 watts; an equivalent LED fixture typically draws a fraction of that for comparable or better brightness, and LED bulbs commonly last tens of thousands of hours versus roughly 1,000-2,000 hours for incandescent, meaning far fewer light-change service calls (which require draining water below the light niche or using a specialized underwater seal).
What to Check Before Retrofitting
Confirm the existing niche and wiring are compatible with the replacement fixture's voltage and housing size; some LED retrofit kits are designed to drop into an existing niche, while others require a full fixture and wiring change. Color-changing LED fixtures add a feature upgrade on top of the efficiency gain but cost more than a simple white-LED swap.
